I have now re-visited the permissive path leading to the Roman Fort at Castell Collen (this goes from part way along the lane, after 'Cwm' and before the lane makes a sharp bend to the right). There has not been any further work done on the stile, which is still difficult to cross. (I can see an alternative way of crossing the fence, but am not sure that this kind of short diversion is legal with regard to permissive paths in the way it is for official footpaths etc.). The rest of the route into the Fort area is quite straightforward.
After crossing the fence, follow the right hand side of the field to reach a waymarked gate into the Fort area. Follow the white arrow right and walk a circuit of the fort, going back by the same route. Then turn right and continue along the lane to follow the walk directions to the church at Llanfihangel Helygen.
